From a Cochin trading house to a UK direct-import supply chain

Our heritage

Rooted in a legacy that spans a century, our manufacturing journey began with M/s. V. O. Vakkan & Sons of Cochin. Established at the turn of the century as a coir yarn and fibre trading company, we made history in 1924 as one of the first Indian-owned enterprises to export coir yarn globally. While our early objectives focused strictly on raw yarn production, evolving international demand drove us to innovate. We expanded our worldwide operations by establishing a specialized manufacturing entity dedicated entirely to value-added architectural and commercial products, beginning with premium entrance door mats and woven mattings.

Today, we operate as the exclusive UK extension arm and sole supplier for this historic factory. By bridging 100 plus years of continuous manufacturing mastery with localized British distribution, we remove the friction of traditional import supply chains. Operating as a direct conduit to the mill allows us to provide UK buyers with rigorous technical compliance, strict quality control, and uninterrupted material traceability straight from the source.

Our engineered product portfolio

Over a century of rich business experience has cemented our reputation as a trusted, authoritative name in the international natural fibre market. Our comprehensive manufacturing range covers Coir Yarn, Door Mats, Coir Matting and Rugs, and high-tensile Coir Geotextiles. We have also expanded into eco-friendly horticultural coir products, specifically biodegradable coir pots and weed protector tree mats. To complete our commercial offering, we supply a diverse catalog of natural and composite floor coverings, including Jute Matting and Rugs, Seagrass Matting and Rugs, heavy-duty Rubber Door Mats, Polypropylene Rope Mats, and Steel Wire Coir Mats.

How it works

    Kerala sourcing

    We buy from coir mills in Kerala, India, a long-established centre of coir fibre processing and weaving.

  2. 02

    Checks before shipment

    Each consignment is checked against the agreed specification before it leaves the mill. [Describe inspection scope, e.g. weight, dimensions, visual checks — to be confirmed.]

  3. 03

    Shipping and import

    Goods are shipped by container and cleared into the UK by us as importer of record.

  4. 04

    West Midlands hub

    Stock is held at our West Midlands hub for dispatch to sites, depots and wholesalers across the UK. [Hub address TBC.]
